We are excited that you have expressed interest in The Global Summer Institute (GSI)! This immersive interdisciplinary summer experience explores the creative approaches to solving real-world challenges in business, organizations, and non-profits both domestically and abroad! Whether you are an entrepreneur, intrapreneur, or exploring your professional path this will help you grow professionally and personally.

This year, we will have two immersive tracks: we will be going to Guadalajara, Mexico & Costa Mesa, California. As a participant, you will go on one of these trips.

Eligibility Requirements
  • Must be a student currently enrolled in a degree program at The University of Texas at San Antonio.
Trek Immersion Information: 

As a GSI participant, you’ll take part in an immersive, week-long trek to a North American destination, where you’ll step into the role of a consultant working on a real-world project for a local organization. This experience is designed to challenge you to think strategically, collaborate closely with peers, and apply your skills beyond the classroom - all while exploring a new city.


Important Institute Dates
(You will be notified of your selection status no later than April 17, 2026.)

  • Mandatory In-Person Orientation: April 30, 2026, 2:00–3:00 PM (Location: Makers Space - Science and Engineering Building (SEB 1.150))

  • In Person Session Dates: May 26 – July 16, 2026 (Final Celebration & Reflection: August 11, 2026)

  • Class Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

  • Travel Dates & Location: 
    • July 20 - July 24, 2026 (Costa Mesa, California)
    • August 3 - August 7, 2026 (Guadalajara, Mexico)

  • Location for Class Sessions: Najim Innovation District (San Pedro II)
    *This is our downtown location. You will be responsible for getting to the Innovation District location.* 

  • Commitment: The first and last sessions are mandatory. All sessions will be held in person. Excused absences may be approved on a case-by-case basis. You are allowed up to three absences. Exceeding this limit will make you ineligible to participate in trek immersions.


Associated Cost

There is a total cost of $600 to participate in the institute. This cost includes institute sessions and travel expenses such as airfare, hotel accommodations, and some meals.

Payment Schedule:

  • First payment of $300 is due May 26, 2026

  • Second payment of $300 is due June 26, 2026

*This experience qualifies for the Najim Experiential Learning Scholarship in the amount of $400. If you are selected, the scholarship application link will be sent to you.*

Please note: There is an abandonment fee of $1,500 if you withdraw from the institute anytime after June 9, 2026.


Passport Details


Everyone traveling abroad will need a passport. If you do not have a passport or need to renew the one you have please use this link to get more information. 

The average cost for a passport is $165 and they take approximately 3-5 weeks to arrive!
